Charles brings over 20 years of antenna design expertise and test experience to Synapse's customers. He is interested in all aspects of radio frequency (RF) designs, products, and systems.
Charles considers his hometown to be Pullman Washington where Washington State University is located. There he received both his Masters and PhD degrees in electrical engineering.
He began his professional career in 1996 working for the US Navy as civilian scientist at a research laboratory located in San Diego California. There he designed multiple antenna solutions for the Navy's surface fleet. His work covered various RF communication and navigation systems spanning frequencies from HF and through S-band. His focus included communication antennas and anti-jam GPS systems. He also developed electromagnetic simulation codes that were used to analyze, design, and troubleshoot shipboard RF performance.
In 2000 Charles returned to the Pacific Northwest and took an Antenna Engineering job at The Boeing Company. There he quickly became a project lead on multiple antenna and RF system technology development efforts. He continued designing complex antenna designs, RF vehicle integration design, and testing of antennas and RF sensor systems. He worked on many different classes of platforms, systems, and across most of the frequency spectrum. In Boeing’s Technology and Research division he invented new antenna technologies that has resulted in multiple Boeing patents. In 2011 he was recognized as a Boeing Associate Technical Fellow for his contributions to Boeing, his expertise in antennas, consulting ability, and leadership ability.
Outside of work Charles enjoys the outdoors by hiking, backpacking, landscape photography, and biking. He also referees men’s and women’s basketball at the high school level.
